Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin obgannīre , oggannīre , -ate suffix3.
Etymology: < classical Latin obgannīre (also oggannīre: compare oggannition n.) to speak menacingly (2nd cent. b.c. in Plautus and Terence), to mutter or growl (2nd cent. a.d. in Apuleius; < ob- ob- prefix + gannīre ganne v.) + -ate suffix3.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
intransitive. To be tediously repetitious.
