Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obitualis.
Etymology: Probably < post-classical Latin obitualis (1691 in a British source) < classical Latin obitus obit n.1 + -al suffix1. Compare slightly earlier obital adj. and n. N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (obi·tiuˌăl) /əʊˈbɪtjʊəl/.
Now rare.
