Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obituarius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin obituarius, adjective and noun < classical Latin obitus obit n.1 + -ārius -ary suffix1. Compare French obituaire (1671 as noun, 1688 as adjective). N.E.D. (1902) gives only the pronunciation (obi·tiuˌări) /əʊˈbɪtjʊərɪ/.
