The dark red or brown ommines occur in Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera Heteroptera, and in the nematocerous Diptera. The more weakly colored ommatines are found in the cyclorrhaphous Diptera, Odonata, and Orthoptera.
