Origin: A borrowing from Hawaiian. Etymon: Hawaiian ʽōhiʽa.
Etymology: < Hawaiian ʽōhiʽa (also more fully ʽōhiʽa-lehua flowering ohia, ʽōhiʽa-ʽai edible ohia).
In the Hawaiian Islands: either of two trees of the myrtle family, the lehua, Metrosideros polymorpha (more fully ohia lehua), and the Malay apple, Syzygium malaccense (more fully ohia ai).
