Battenbergn.
/ˈbatənbəːɡ/ Used attributively to designate a kind of oblong cake, usually of two colours (with square cross-section showing alternating blocks of colour) and covered with almond paste. (See also quot. 1912.) Also figurative.The town of Battenberg is the seat of the family which became known in Britain as Mountbatten. The Battenberg/Mountbatten connection by marriage with the British Royal Family may help to account for the name: see quot. 1981.
