Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymon: Hebrew ʿōleh.
Etymology: < Hebrew ʿōleh, present participle of ʿālāh to ascend, (in modern Hebrew also) to immigrate to Israel (compare aliyah n.).
A Jewish immigrant to the modern state of Israel.
