Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ὠμοϕαγία.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ὠμοϕαγία the practice of eating raw flesh < ancient Greek ὠμος raw ( < the same Indo-European base as Sanskrit āma , Armenian howm ) + -ϕαγία -phagia comb. form. Compare post-classical Latin omophagia (4th cent.). Compare omophagy n.
