Etymology: < post-classical Latin opus consutum, literally ‘work sewn together’ (1295: see below) < classical Latin opus work (see opus n.) + consūtum , neuter of consūtus sewn together, past participle of consuere (see consutile adj.).1295 Inventory in W. Dugdale Hist. St. Paul's Cathedral (1658) 211 Item Vestimentum quod fuit Bartholomei Brunne habet paruras de rubeo et Indico opere consuto, cum Majestate et decem Apostolis.
