单词 oodles
释义

oodlesn.

Brit. /ˈuːdlz/, U.S. /ˈud(ə)lz/
Forms: 1800s oodils, 1800s– oodles.
Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps shortened < scadoodles, U.S. slang in the same sense (although this is first attested slightly later: 1869; compare scad n.7 b); or perhaps formed after boodle n.1, caboodle n. For a discussion of various etymological theories see G. L. Cohen in Stud. in Slang (1985) I. 53–9. Eng. Dial. Dict. includes quot. 1892 at its entry for huddle , noun (see huddle n.) but the identification seems at best uncertain.
colloquial (originally U.S.)
Large or unlimited quantities; a very great number or amount of something.
