The repetitive rhythmical sound characteristic of a deep-toned brass instrument in a band; a sound or musical accompaniment resembling this. Also: an instrument that makes such a sound, a bass brass instrument. Frequently attributive, esp. in oompah band.Sometimes in reduplicated form, emphasizing the rhythmical nature of the sound.
