Etymology: < French ondes musicales, literally ‘musical waves’ (1931 or earlier; compare later ondes martenot Ondes Martenot n.) < ondes (see Ondes Martenot n.) + musicales , feminine plural of musical musical adj.; named by Maurice Martenot (see Martenot n., and quot. 1940 at Ondes Martenot n.). Compare slightly earlier Martenot n., Ondium Martenot n., Ondes Martenot n. Compare also later Ondes n., Ondes Martenot n.Not fully naturalized in English.
