Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin operōsitās.
Etymology: < classical Latin operōsitās elaborateness of construction, in post-classical Latin also laboriousness, painstaking endeavour (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < operōsus operose adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
Now rare.
