Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Ophiuridae.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Ophiuridae, order name (E. Forbes Hist. Brit. Starfishes (1841) p. xiv; later also Ophiurida , Ophiuridea ) < scientific Latin Ophiura Ophiura n. + -idae (see -id suffix3). Compare German Ophiuriden, plural (J. P. Müller & F. H. Troschel 1840, in Archiv f. Naturgeschichte 1 329).
