Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: osteo- comb. form, -tomy comb. form.
Etymology: < osteo- comb. form + -tomy comb. form. In sense 1 after post-classical Latin osteotome (1665 in the source translated in quot. 1740 at sense 1); compare French ostéotomie (dated 1753 in anatomy in Robert Dict. alphabétique et analogique (1986)). In sense 2 after German Osteotomie (A. Mager 1852, in Verhandl. der phys.-med. Ges. in Würzburg 2 225). With sense 2 compare slightly earlier osteotome n.
