Etymology: Probably a reduced form of a compound of over adv. (see variants s.v.) + a, variant of all adj. Eng. Dial. Dict. (at cited word) also records this word in use in northern England (from a 19th-cent. Border Glossary in the Collection of Prince Louis-Lucien Bonaparte (1813–91)).
Now Scottish.
