English uses. In early use in English, Babemba n. was more commonly used as the noun, and Bemba as the adjective (following D. Livingstone's practice; compare quot. 1872 at sense A. 1 and quot. 1867 at Babemba n.). Noun uses of Bemba became common in the mid 20th cent. and have now largely superseded Babemba n.
