An orthopteran or similar insect; spec. a member of an informal assemblage of orders allied to the Orthoptera, usually including also the Phasmida, Grylloblattodea, Dermaptera, Isoptera, Blattodea, and Mantodea, and sometimes the Plecoptera, Zoraptera, and Embioptera.Some schemes have included a subclass or clade called the Orthopteroidea.
