单词 ordo
释义

ordon.

Brit. /ˈɔːdəʊ/, U.S. /ˈɔrdoʊ/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ordo.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ordo (12th cent. in this sense: see order n.). Compare French ordo (1752). N.E.D. (1903) records also (without exemplification) the senses ‘b. in old Latin school-books,..the arrangement of words required in translating into English’, and ‘c. Pros. = colon n.2 ’ Of these the former represents a shortening of classical Latin ōrdō verbōrum order of words. The origin of the prosodic sense is not clear, as classical (and post-classical) Latin ōrdō does not appear to have been used in this sense.
