单词 organer
释义

organern.

Forms: late Middle English organor, late Middle English organour, late Middle English (1500s Scottish) 1700s–1800s organer, 1500s organar (Scottish).
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French organeor; Latin organarius.
Etymology: Either < Old French organeor organist (a1323; earlier as orgenere (c1198)) < organe organ n.1 + -eor -er suffix2, or < post-classical Latin organarius organist, organ-maker (4th cent.; 1364 in a British source; < organum organ n.1 + -ārius -er suffix2). Compare Middle French organier (1382 as the title of a book on the organ), French organier organ-maker (1844).Attested as a surname in England from the early 14th cent., as Hugh le Organer (1303), Peter le Organer (1310), Elena le Orgener (1332), although it is unclear whether these are to be interpreted as Middle English or Anglo-Norman.
Obsolete (rare in later use).
An organist. Also (occasionally): an organ-maker.
