Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ὀργιαστής.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ὀργιαστής person who celebrates orgies < ὀργιάζειν to celebrate orgies (see orgiasm n.) + -της, suffix forming agent nouns. Compare French orgiaste priestess of Bacchus, who presided at orgies (1752), initiate of the orgies of Bacchus (1866).
A person who celebrates or attends orgies; (also more generally) a person given to excessive indulgence in something.
