Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ὀτοτοῖ.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ὀτοτοῖ (chiefly used by tragedians), probably of imitative origin. Compare slightly earlier otototoi int. N.E.D. (1902) indicates the stress as otoˈtoi.
literary. Obsolete. rare.
Expressing grief or pain: alas; woe; = otototoi int.Apparently only in Browning.
