Etymology: < French ouarine (C. d'Abbeville Histoire de la mission des pères capucins en l'Isle de Maragnan (1614) xli. f. 252^v), †ouarina (1767 in Buffon: see note), apparently originally a misreading for *ouarive ( < guariba guariba n.; compare warine n.).Buffon ( Hist. Nat. (1767) XV. 5) also uses the forms ouarin and ouarina.

Zoology. Obsolete.

A howler monkey ( Alouatta belzebul or other member of the genus Alouatta). Cf. earlier guariba n., and warine n.
