Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: ouch int.1
Etymology: < ouch int.1 N.E.D. (1903) records the following quotation as first use, but this is due to a misreading of Onching (which is unexplained) as Ouching:1654 E. Gayton Pleasant Notes Don Quixot iv. ii. 176 But harke Sancho Pancas Runs Onching round the mountaine like a ranck-Asse, Braying for's Company.

Etymology: Ultimately imitative; perhaps < German autsch, interjection expressing sudden pain (the earliest examples are all U.S., and perhaps hence < Pennsylvania German), although compare also ow int.
