Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: osteo- comb. form, -algia comb. form.
Etymology: < ost- (in osteo- comb. form) + -algia comb. form. Compare scientific Latin ostealgia (1791 or earlier) and German Ostalgia (1844 or earlier). Compare later ostalgy n.R. G. Mayne gives a Latin form ostalgia (see quot. 1857 at ostalgy n.).
Medicine. Now rare.
Pain in a bone or bones.
