Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Paget.
Etymology: < the name of Sir James Paget (1814–99), English surgeon, who described the disease of the breast in 1874 (in St. Bartholomew's Hosp. Rep. 10 87) and the disease of bone in 1877 (see quot. 1877 at sense 1b).

1. Paget's disease n.
a. An eczematoid condition of the skin characterized by the presence of pathognomonic abnormal cells within the epidermis (see sense 2), frequently associated with an adenocarcinoma of underlying tissue and most commonly occurring in the female nipple.
