Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: English Parliament , Funkadelic , pure adj., funk n.2
Etymology: Either < the initial letter of Parliament, the name of a funk band formed by U.S. singer George Clinton (b. 1941) + funk- (in Funkadelic, the name of a funk band also formed by George Clinton), or < the initial letter of pure adj., probably after P. in U.S. drugs slang (see P n. 10k; compare also quot. 1976 at sense 1) + funk n.2 (compare sense 3 at that entry).
