Etymology: < the name of Antonio Pacchioni (1665–1726), Italian anatomist who first described the bodies in his Dissertatio Epistolaris de Glandulis Conglobatis Durae Meningis Humanae (1705) + -an suffix. Compare post-classical Latin Pacchionius (1796 or earlier in glandulae Pacchioniae ; compare quot. 1807 for Pacchionian body n. at sense 1).
