Etymology: < Italian padronanza mastership (a1613; a1594 in sense ‘mastery, thorough knowledge’) < padrone padrone n. + -anza -ancy suffix. Compare post-classical Latin patronantia homage due to a patron (early 13th cent. in an Italian source). Compare padronage n.
Obsolete.
