Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French paperasserie.
Etymology: < French paperasserie (1807) < paperasse quantity of paper, especially of bureaucratic paperwork (c1590 in Middle French; < papier paper n. + -asse , augmentative suffix; compare in same sense Middle French paperat (1534), paperas , plural (1553)) + -erie -ery suffix.
Excessive bureaucratic procedure or paperwork; bureaucracy; red tape.
