With use as adjective compare classical Latin Paphlagonius, ancient Greek Παϕλαγών, Παϕλαγωνικός Paphlagonian.Paflagonia (also Paflogonia) occurs as a place name in English contexts in the Old English translation of Orosius Hist.

Of or relating to Paphlagonia, or its inhabitants.In later use usually with reference to the story of the Paphlagonian king told in Sidney's Arcadia (a1586), generally thought to be the basis of the subplot in Shakespeare's King Lear.
