Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: oxy- comb. form1, -cephalic comb. form.
Etymology: < oxy- comb. form1 + -cephalic comb. form, after scientific Latin Oxycephali pointed heads or sugar-loaf heads (1856 or earlier). Compare Hellenistic Greek ὀξυκέϕαλος.Scientific Latin oxycephalus and French oxycéphalé were used to designate nematode worms by H. M. D. de Blainville (1828); compare also French oxycéphale (1838 in zoology). N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation of the second element as (sĭfæ·lik) /sɪˈfælɪk/.

Having or designating a skull or head of abnormally pointed or conical shape; affected by oxycephaly. Also as n.: a person with oxycephaly.
