1815 H. Davy in Philos. Trans. (Royal Soc.) 105 213 I venture to propose a name..that of oxyiodine for the new solid compound, and oxyiodic acid, for the acid compound it forms in water.
1815 W. Henry Elements Exper. Chem. (ed. 7) II. i. xviii. 32 For the watery solution of oxyiodine, Sir H. Davy has proposed the name of oxyiodic acid, and is disposed to regard it as a triple compound of iodine, hydrogen, and oxygen; or an oxyiode of hydrogen.
