Etymology: < Japanese oyabun boss, head < oya parent (see oyakata n.) + -bun , suffix denoting an assumed relation between one person and another, or the person thus related ( < Middle Chinese). Compare earlier oyakata n.
In Japan: a boss, a chief; spec. the boss of an organized crime syndicate or of a labour organization.
