Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pampinus.
Etymology: < classical Latin pampinus vine-shoot, vine foliage, of uncertain origin, perhaps a loanword from a Mediterranean language (compare Georgian babilo vine-shoot, (regional) fruitless vine, vine-leaf). Compare Italian pampino (first half of 14th cent.), Middle French pampin (1587 in an isolated attestation).
Obsolete. rare.
A tendril or young shoot of a vine.
