Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi pakauṛā.
Etymology: < Hindi pakauṛā < Sanskrit pakvavaṭa < pakva cooked + vaṭa lump of pulse for frying. Compare Sindhi pakoṛā, Gujarati pakoṛā, both in sense ‘fried pulse ball’.
Indian Cookery.
An appetizer or snack made from pieces of chopped vegetable or other foodstuff that have been coated in seasoned batter and deep-fried.
