Etymology: < French parabromalide (S. Cloëz 1859, in Comptes rendus de l'Acad. des Sci. 48 643) < para- para- prefix¹ + bromal bromal n. + -ide -ide suffix. Compare parachloralide n. and later bromal n. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation of the final element as (-brō^u·măləid) /-ˈbrəʊməlaɪd/.

A supposed crystalline isomer of bromal obtained by adding bromine to methanol.
