Etymology: < para- prefix¹ + ancient Greek χορός dance (see chorus n.), but taken by S. Sugden (see quot. 1924) as if having the sense ‘space’, by mistake for χώρα (see choral adj.²).

Chemistry.

A numerical quantity (found empirically to be constant over a wide range of temperature) equal to the molecular weight of a liquid multiplied by the fourth root of its surface tension and divided by the difference between the density of the liquid and that of its vapour.
