Etymology: < German parachros (1820 in Parachros-Baryt , in the passage translated in quot. 1820; < Byzantine Greek παράχρωσις colouring (already in Hellenistic Greek in sense ‘use of the chromatic scale’; < ancient Greek παρα- para- prefix¹ + Hellenistic Greek χρῶσις colouring: see metachrosis n.)). N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (pæ·răkrō^us) /ˈpærəkrəʊs/.

Mineralogy. Obsolete.

Apt to undergo a change in colour. Only in parachrose baryte.
