Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek παν- , αἰσθητής , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek παν- pan- comb. form + αἰσθητής a person who feels or perceives (see aesthete n.) + -ism suffix. With sense 2 compare earlier panaesthesia n. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (pæne·s-, pænī·sþĭtiz'm) /pæˈnɛs-/ /pæˈniːsθɪtɪz(ə)m/.
Obsolete. rare.
