A class of cargo ship, notionally comprising those of the maximum size that allows navigation of the Panama Canal, i.e. with a deadweight tonnage between 50,000 and 79,999 and a maximum width of 105 ft (approx. 32 m); this size of vessel. Also: a ship, esp. an oil tanker, of this class. Frequently attributive.
