Etymology: < Guyani (Lake Torrens region) and surrounding Australian Aboriginal languages of South Australia barrgilya.

Any of various succulent plants of the family Portulacaceae and esp. of the genus Calandrinia, native to arid inland Australia; esp. Calandrinia balonensis and C. polyandra. Frequently attributive.The leaves of this plant are traditionally eaten to quench thirst, and its seeds are ground into a paste to be cooked or eaten raw.
