单词 paleola
释义

paleolan.

Brit. /peɪlɪˈəʊlə/, U.S. /ˌpeɪliˈoʊlə/
Inflections: Plural paleolae.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin paleola.
Etymology: < scientific Latin paleola (1832 or earlier) < classical Latin palea scale of chaff (see palea n.) + -ola -ola suffix1. Compare French paléole (1819 in the passage translated in quot. 1829); the use in quot. 1829 may show an alteration of the French word after -ola suffix1.
Botany. Now rare.
A lodicule or hypogynous scale in the floret of a grass.
