Etymology: < classical Latin palimbacchīus metrical foot consisting of three syllables, two long and one short < Hellenistic Greek παλιμβάκχειος < ancient Greek πάλιν back, backwards (see palinodia n.) + Hellenistic Greek βακχεῖος bacchius n. Compare slightly later bacchius n.
Prosody.
A metrical foot consisting of three syllables, two long and one short; = antibacchius n.
