Origin: A borrowing from Isicamtho. Etymon: Isicamtho pantsula.
Etymology: < Isicamtho pantsula < Zulu phansula (verb) to beat, make a cracking sound as with a whip, (noun) person with a distinctive style of dress, style of jiving, music to which this is performed (perhaps compare beat generation n.).The form pantsulas is occasionally attested as a singular.
South African.
1. colloquial. Among urban (esp. township) people: a young, black person (usually a man) associated with the latest trends in street culture and a fashionable, expensive style of dress originally based on 1950s American gangsters.
