Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French palissé, palisser.
Etymology: < French palissé (1690 in heraldry), past participle of palisser (see palis v.). N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (pa·lise) /ˈpalise/.
Heraldry. Obsolete. rare.
As postmodifier. Designating a dividing line broken into parallel vertical pointed projections like a palisade, as in party per fess palissé. Also: designating a field divided into vertical piles (cf. pily adj.2).

1780 J. Edmondson Compl. Body Heraldry II. (Gloss.) Palissé, is like a range of pallisadoes before a fortification, and so represented on a fesse rising up a considerable length, and pointed at the top, with the field appearing between them.
