单词 | pangene |
释义 | pangenen. Biology. Now historical. Hugo de Vries' term for: a supposed particle embodying a heritable character which is present in a cell nucleus and is transmitted to each daughter nucleus during cell division (cf. pangenesis n. 2). ΚΠ 1889 Bot. Gaz. 14 56 The particles, to which the development of hereditary characters is due and which, according to his [sc. de Vries'] view, do not migrate through the whole organism, are called by him ‘pangens’ (Pangene). 1899 J. A. Thomson Sci. of Life xi. 146 The theory of ‘Pangenes’ advocated by De Vries in 1889..incorporates the distinctively modern conception of germinal continuity. 1944 Science 20 Oct. 344/1 Each nucleus of an organism is alike in containing every kind of pangen, all of which, at each nuclear division, are divided and passed equally into each daughter nucleus. 1964 Adv. Genetics 11 189 According to de Vries' interpretation, therefore, all hereditary modifications are the result of a change of state of one or more pangenes. 1999 Isis 90 243 In each cell nucleus all the pangenes of the individual are present, though most are latent; in the cytoplasm there are only those that will become active.
