Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pallidus , -i- connective.
Etymology: < classical Latin pallidus pallid adj. + -i- connective. Compare scientific Latin pallidi- (from 1789 in specific names, e.g. pallidicornis, pallidipennis).Apparently found only in the formations below.
Botany and Zoology. Obsolete. rare.
Forming a small number of adjectives modelled on scientific Latin epithets, with the sense ‘having (a) pale ——’.
pallidiflorous adj. Obsolete having pale flowers.
