Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin parrhesia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin parrhesia outspokenness, frankness (a636 in Isidore; in classical Latin as a Greek word) < ancient Greek παρρησία < παν- pan- comb. form + ῥῆσις speech (see rhesis n.) + -ία -ia suffix1.
Chiefly Rhetoric.
Candour, frankness; outspokenness or boldness of speech. Also: the act or practice of asking forgiveness in advance for speaking in this way.
