Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French passe-crassane.
Etymology: < French passe-crassane (1874) < passe- (see pass- comb. form) + crassane a variety of pear (1690 as crasane ; of uncertain origin). Compare Passe Colmar n.
A variety of russet dessert pear that ripens very late, grown chiefly in southern Europe and California.
